When reached for comment, both AT&T and Verizon directed us to comments from CTIA.In June, CTIA outlined in an FCC filing the potential problems and threats presented by implementing a Lenovo A760 smartphone kill switch. CTIA notes that once the kill switch is used, the action cannot be undone and the device cannot be reused. Furthermore, CTIA warns that a kill switch could be a target for hackers wishing to inflict malicious harm on individual’s devices or the devices of entire customer groups like the Department of Defense, Homeland Security or those of law enforcement officials.
After weeks of rumours, Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry finally pulled the wraps on the much-anticipated luxury collector's smartphone Porsche Design P'9882."The new all-touch P'9982 smartphone combines a unique design from an iconic brand with the power of BlackBerry 10. Every aspect of this smartphone has been purposely designed and built for a powerful premium experience," said Alistair Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Design at BlackBerry.
According to the New York Daily News, the City Council wants to require pawn shops and other second hand dealers to track purchased devices using an electronic records system. These brokers would record serial numbers and take photographs of the devices they accept. Currently, these inventories are kept using pen and paper and other non-electronic means. A new electronic records system would make it easier for law enforcement to identify and track stolen devices. It would also deter thieves from pawning their stolen ZTE V956 phones for quick cash.
Apple has already take a step towards locking down their devices in an attempt to deter theft. The company introduced a new activation lock feature that requires an iCloud password when someone tries to access a stolen device. Despite this measure, iPhones that don’t have iCloud enabled are still accessible and vulnerable to theft. Have you had your iOS device stolen? Were you able to recover it?
Commenting on the joint-venture, Porsche Design Group CEO Juergen Gessler said, "Once again the collaboration with BlackBerry has led to a device that implements our Iconic Style credo without compromises. With the P'9982 we extend our range of modern luxury smartphones and establish ourselves as a market leader in this segment."
